When you are trying to get a foot onto the first rung of the career ladder, you're told to write a resume. Before you have any experience, you're told to add your career aspirations, unpaid internships, and educational information. You want to impress possible employers in the future and enhance your resume as much as you can. The best way to do that is to gain as much relevant experience as you can - paid or not. Did you know that a resume can either help or hinder your job search? The more you have on it that's relevant to the job which you're applying for, the better your chances at securing work.

Understanding how work experience can boost your resume is going to get you into your dream job faster than you think. One place you can start is in the charity sector. Unpaid work experience is going to help you to gain knowledge and skills that you didn't have before. The more you educate yourself, the better you will look to an employer.

So, with that in mind, let's check out three ways you can boost your experience and get the job that you really want!

Skills Development

You have to choose a role that will enhance your skills. So, if you want to work in a marketing job, you can gain some skills blogging as a volunteer. If you want to work in real estate, you’d partake in real estate courses to enhance your skills. The skills that you develop can be transferable ones that will enable you to boost your resume and really enhance your job search. Other transferable skills include communication, teamwork, time management, and leadership.

Gaps In Your Knowledge

If you get some work experience in the field that you want to work within, you will be able to fill in the gaps that you have for industry knowledge. This is valuable experience - especially if you can show it on your resume that you are actively going out and getting the experience that you need. Employers will see the value in this industry experience that you are making an effort to gain, and it will give you a definite edge over your competition.

Networking

Do you have any idea how valuable it is to your resume to network? When you make contacts with the right people in the right places, you are going to have a bridge to use when you need a connection for something in the industry. People will remember your efforts to further your career, especially if you are making a point of going to the right events and rubbing shoulders with the right people.
