Almost thirteen million people in the US alone have had to find new jobs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. If you’re one of them, the process can be tough as there will be plenty of rejection letters coming your way. After all, there are tons of unemployed people and only so many roles, so the demand surpasses the supply.

Still, it’s not as if there’s nothing you can do about the situation. Job hunting and securing a job is possible if you do the right things and remain positive. Continue reading to find out more.

Rely On The Internet

The internet is your friend in many respects because it contains all the information you need to secure a position with an employer. Plus, you can make your resume more visible by posting it on job sites and using SEO tactics to boost the chances of a recruiter seeing it. Of course, if you do land a job, you’re bound to work from home for the foreseeable future, so it pays to highlight your faith in technology and your ability to use tech effectively. For example, you might want to prepare for a virtual interview as opposed to a traditional interview.

But Not Too Much

Okay, this sounds like a contradiction, but it’s more about not putting your eggs in one basket. The emphasis on the world wide web is huge right now, as it should be, yet this doesn’t mean there are zero offline options. You can work for yourself by deciding to drive for a living, delivering essential packages and parcels. The demand will only be higher as the holiday season approaches, so the odds of landing a job are big. Working for medical and healthcare companies is on the table, too, if you’re happy to take the risk.

Be Flexible

What’s important to remember is that needs must be met during challenging periods. Please don’t view any role as permanent - it doesn’t have to be if you want to leave after six months. Alternatively, you should see a part-time or temporary position as unsuitable because it doesn’t offer what you want. You have to be open-minded and flexible because everything has changed in the past couple of months. Therefore, looking at a job from the same perspective isn’t a smart move as the goalposts aren’t there any longer.

Don’t Forget Your Wellbeing

With nothing to do and no distractions, you can get lost in the process of applying for several jobs a day. However, your health and wellbeing shouldn’t take a backseat due to your employment status. If anything, you need to make an effort to take regular breaks and get out of the house to break up the monotony of job hunting. Otherwise, you’ll soon get fed up and be less productive, which is a surefire way to harm your chances of securing a new role. To keep the mind active, you’ve got to move your body!
