If there is one thing that the many small businesses find challenging, it is hiring good candidates to join their team. The best qualified and most employable candidates tend to apply to jobs at well-known businesses and companies, believing that the best salaries and opportunities for career development are at the more prominent corporations. However, that is not necessarily the case. Small businesses have plenty that they can offer as well - sometimes more! Here are a few things that a smaller company can do to attract the very best talent to their team.

Look at your company culture

By this, we mean the more informal things you do. For example, if you have a young team that all seem to get on well, can you arrange regular social activities, such as dinner or Friday night drinks, or team building days. This helps your staff to bond, making them more productive and better at working together as a team in the workplace. News of a really positive atmosphere in a business spreads quickly, and you will soon find that this attracts a lot more applicants for any open positions that you may have.

Improve Your Job Adverts

Before you submit a job advertisement, take a closer look. They need to be well written and clearly describe the role, the duties, and the responsibilities that the successful candidate will have on a day to day basis. If this is not clear,   you may not be attracting the right kinds of applications for it.

Make Sure Your Hiring Process Is Clear

A complicated and messy hiring process can be very offputting to a would be applicant. Make sure that the process is very clear - do they need to fill out an application form or do they need to hand in a resume and covering letter? You also need to think about how many candidates you are going to interview, and in what form the interviews will take place - this may be over the phone, in person or a video interview. Streamline the questions you will ask and the information that you want to elicit from them. Having a transparent process will make it easier to compare applicants and choose the right one for the job.

Reach Out To Potential Candidates On LinkedIn or Through Headhunting Agencies

Don't be afraid to reach out to someone directly if you think that they may be perfect for your company. Check out professional social media sites such as LinkedIn, or use the services of a recruitment or headhunting agency. This is an excellent way to hire people who may not be aware of your business and who might not have seen your job adverts anywhere else. Not only that, you may find that people are very flattered by you approaching them with the potential of a job which could make them a lot more likely to apply for the job.

Hopefully, these tips will make it a lot easier for you to bring some great talent into your small business.
