OVERVIEW

Coordinates and oversees the supply chain of the organization, including supplier identification, development and retention, contract negotiation, material procurement and expedite, inventory management and control, and logistics. Build Strong business relationships with multiple contacts at Key Vendors. Develops/monitors metrics to assess supplier performance, improve inventory turnover, promote on-time delivery, manage capacity and monitor quality trends. Develops and implements department standards, practices, procedures and policies in accordance with Current ISO and industry standards. Coordinates supply plans for new product introductions (based on forecasts) and product phase outs (based on market trends) in conjunction with sales, customer service, design engineering and Key Vendors/Suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning the flow of materials and services end to end to meet forecasting and customer demands.  Development, utilization, and optimization of material deployment methods (MRP and Kanban/Lean).

  • Responsible for the departmental training and development of Purchasing and other personnel.

  • Responsible for the Company’s Supply Chain Compliance to regulatory and contractual requirements.

  • Directs the procurement process for raw materials, production supplies, machine parts, contractors and capital equipment requirements.  Oversees scheduling of orders placed, warehouse storage and ensures material availability for release to production floor.

  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement and following up with intent to purchase through the delivery process.

  • Analyzes customer requirements based on inventory stocking levels, including preliminary specifications, required documentation and test reports, approved suppliers and date required for production utilization.

  • Solicits, evaluates and negotiates proposals for the requested materials, equipment and services as needed

  • Investigates, identifies and evaluates potential and alternate suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements for our “Approved Vendors”.

  • Negotiates the lowest total cost while balancing the optimum quality and delivery requirements.

  • Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and governmental regulatory practices.

  • Assures that inventory and services are delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards as specified by the company.

  • Ensures that materials are properly received and coordinates with material handling for the storage of materials in a systematic and convenient location for use as needed.

  • Maintains a timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.

  • Coordinates appropriate methods needed to distribute product in a cost-effective manner. Negotiates with freight carriers and selects optimal methods for receiving and sending product.

  • Ensures timely notification of Vendor Price Increases, Changes in lead times, supply shortages, or quality concerns.

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in an advanced materials management position including skills such as Planning, Sourcing, Purchasing, Logistics, Warehousing and Inventory Control, in a manufacturing setting

  • ERP/MRP experience as well as advanced knowledge in manufacturing process and procedures

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Outlook Microsoft office products, email and  Search Engines

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in ERP/MRP systems, specifically in forecasting, procurement, and inventory management, components

  • Experience in the practice of Lean business techniques or other continuous improvement methodologies in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience building strong business relationships with Key Vendors to improve performance.

  • Excellent verbal, written and generous listening communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and establish priorities

  • Ability to drive change and make improvements to existing processes and procedures

  • Ability to lead, motivate and supervise projects, work under tight deadlines, Vendor/Supplier constraints and supply chain challenges

  • Ability to collect input to make timely, independent decisions and exhibit sound and accurate judgment.

  • Ability to communicate changes effectively both internally and to customers, vendors and suppliers

  • Willingness to include appropriate people in decision-making process

  • Ability to deal with competing demands, frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events while remaining flexible to implement changes under pressure.

  • Ability to create and follow policies, procedures and instructions and to respond to Upper management direction

  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and Environmental regulations and employment laws

  • Ability to interface well with President, V.P. of Operations, Department Managers, Design Engineering, Sales, Customer Service and Quality


EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s) AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations or equivalent experience

  • Lean, Six Sigma, APICS or other professional certifications preferred
