This position will be responsible for implementing, teaching, coaching and educating the supply chain organization at Crane business units on established global supply chain processes & policies, tools & templates and best practices for direct materials. Additionally, this position will have responsibilities for continuously improving and training on Crane’s Strategic Sourcing Process and monitor compliance on Commodity Strategies, Sourcing Tollgate Process, and monitor and assess business project funnel and active decks. Maintaining and improving existing tools and templates to optimize supply chain data analytics and decision-making processes. Identifying, leading and executing commodity councils and related council strategies across Crane business units
For direct spend categories, lead the implementation and execution of the global commodity strategies for each business in support of Crane’s performance objectives for material cost reduction, supplier on-time delivery, inventory reduction, supplier quality, and supplier lead times. This would include recommendations to rationalize the supply base, drive increased sourcing from low cost sources, identify new low-cost regions & facilitate new supplier development from those regions, and leverage the material spend with other Crane business units.
Facilitate Commodity Strategy development process. Identify areas of improvement in commodity strategy process, and leverage technology to facilitate the process.
Facilitate, teach and coach on the Sourcing Tollgate Process. Identify and implement areas of improvement around the existing process, tools and templates as part of the Sourcing Tollgate Process including but not limited to cost forecasting and risk exposure analysis, supplier evaluation and selection templates, total cost of ownership analysis, and make versus buy analysis tool among others.
Facilitate and lead Commodity Councils on key strategic commodities to develop and implement global commodity strategy, identify key strategic suppliers on each region, and share commodity best practices and market trends.
Leverage supply chain technology to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of the strategic sourcing process.
Assess and provide feedback of business unit project funnel and actives decks.
Collaborate with global sourcing teams (China, India, and Mexico) to align with business unit commodity strategies, driving savings, ensuring quality, supplier performance, and business continuity.
Actively identify leveraging opportunities across business units and lead efforts to use that leverage to optimize cost and performance.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and world markets for key direct spend categories including; steel, iron, copper, aluminum and other such commodities that have a direct impact to the business.
Collaborate with regional Sourcing Leaders to obtain competitive bids, analyze costs and negotiate/award contracts to vendors based on total cost of ownership to the company commensurate with financial risks, quality standards, and delivery capabilities.
Monitor on-going supplier performance, support functions / Business Units in resolving supplier performance problems, revise supplier strategies and if necessary, lead project/s to exit poor performing supplier/s.
Improve the intellectual capital of the personnel involved with Supply Chain through the design and implementation of professional development programs aimed at elevating affected employees’ skill set, knowledge and contribution levels.
Consistent with CRANE Business System, participates, facilitates, and leads Kaizen events that will eliminate waste, improve pull and one-piece flow, and deliver breakthrough results in Growth, Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost throughout the Supply Chain.
Display a spirit of cooperation throughout the supply chain to insure responsiveness to the customer.
The ideal candidate will have been exposed to, facilitated and/or executed a world class strategic sourcing methodology in relevant industry sector for direct materials. Demonstrated the ability to collaborate in a globally matrixed environment combined with high demand for process and continuous improvement is critical.
7+ years’ experience in direct and matrix strategic sourcing and category management environments with a focus on best-in-class operational tools and practices.
Strategic Sourcing exposure on direct materials. Preferred commodities include, but are not limited to castings, machined parts, printed circuit boards & electronic components, plastic injection moldings, stampings, Wire & Harnesses, etc.
Nimble thinking skills; capable of gleaning meaning from available data; a quick study of the new and different methodologies; uses multiple problem-solving tools and techniques.
Demonstrated understanding of the total cost of ownership decision making, total value chain, cash flow, and cost systems.
A degree in engineering or other related technical discipline is preferred. An advanced degree is highly desirable; MBA preferred. Lean Sigma training and/or relevant procurement certifications also preferred.
Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up, down, and across organizational lines.
Strong team building and project management
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions.
Proven expertise in developing supplier quality systems and supplier performance metrics.
Knowledge/experience with eSourcing tools.
Willingness to travel up to 25% - 50%.
Knowledge of Microsoft office suite software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.).
BS/BA in business or technical discipline. An MBA is desired.
Certification in APICS and/or ISM is highly desired.
