Summary

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing and receiving of materials and equipment required for production. This position will also coordinate activities related to vendor management and inventory control.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Locate and evaluate vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Follow-up with vendors to ensure on-time-delivery.
  • Expedite purchase orders when necessary, in order to achieve production goals.
  • Raise awareness of late orders that will affect production.
  • Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
  • Manage part dispositions resulting from Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revision changes
  • Run Materials Resource Planning (MRP) and maintain relevant information in our ERP system.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor complaints and process Return Material Authorizations (RMA) when needed.
  • Contribute as a member of the Material Review Board (MRB).


Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge and use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications such as MRP, Purchasing, Finance, Inventory control, Receiving, and Shipping.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks files or mechanical drawings highly preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with opto-mechanical systems a plus
  • Familiarity with international vendors and shipping required
  • Familiarity with Quality systems like ISO 9001 preferred
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Productivity tools: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.


Experience/Education Requirements

  • Business or technical bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in Operations, Materials, or Quality organizations.
  • Experience with ERP and MRP system preferred
